The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is India’s most prestigious national-level scholarship exam, established by NCERT in 1963. It is designed to identify and nurture academically gifted students, providing financial assistance from Class 11 all the way up to the doctoral level.
Conducted in two stages—State Level (Stage I) and National Level (Stage II)—NTSE evaluates students on both mental ability and scholastic aptitude. The first stage is organized by State and Union Territory authorities, while the second stage is conducted nationally by NCERT. Only students who qualify in Stage I are eligible to appear for Stage II, making it a highly competitive process.
Every year, thousands of students from across India participate in this examination, but only around 2,000 scholarships are awarded. This limited selection adds to the prestige of NTSE, making it a significant academic achievement for students at an early stage of their careers.
Beyond financial support, NTSE scholars gain recognition that can strengthen their academic profiles. It often helps in future competitive exams, college admissions, and even career opportunities. The exam also plays a crucial role in developing analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a strong conceptual foundation in subjects like Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.
