A meaningful initiative aimed at supporting education within the institutional community has been launched at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). Alumni Swapna Mitra (PGP 1999) and Shashank Kothi (PGP 2000) have established the Shri Raghuvir Kothi Memorial Scholarship, creating an opportunity to assist the education of a girl child from the institute’s staff community.

Shri Raghuvir Kothi Memorial Scholarship for Girl Child

The scholarship initiative was formalized on 12 March 2026 in Bengaluru through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The date holds special significance as it marks the birth anniversary of Shri Raghuvir Kothi, in whose memory the scholarship has been instituted.

A Tribute to the Value of Education

The scholarship has been established as a tribute to the lifelong belief of Shri Raghuvir Kothi in the transformative power of education. By creating this award, the donors aim to honour his legacy while helping deserving students pursue their academic aspirations.

Speaking about the initiative, Shashank Kothi shared that the scholarship represents both remembrance and responsibility.

“We are fortunate to be doing this in memory of our beloved father, Shri Raghuvir Kothi, who deeply valued education. Through this effort, we hope to give back to the society and the community that shaped our own journey.”

The award document was formally signed by Dr. Sudha Kothi, mother of Shashank Kothi, adding a personal and emotional dimension to the occasion.

Supporting the Education of a Girl Child

The Shri Raghuvir Kothi Memorial Scholarship will be awarded every year to one girl child of an IIMB staff member. The selection will be based on a means-cum-merit criterion, ensuring that the award reaches a deserving student who demonstrates both academic promise and financial need.

Such initiatives play an important role in strengthening educational access, particularly for young girls, and reflect a growing commitment among alumni to contribute to inclusive development within academic institutions. Details information is available on official website.

Collaboration and Institutional Support for IIM Bangalore Scholarship

The alumni donors also acknowledged the support and encouragement they received from members of the IIMB community while establishing the scholarship.

They expressed gratitude to:

  • Utanka Sarma and the IIMB Alumni Office for facilitating the process

  • Vasanthi Srinivasan, Dean – Alumni Relations & Development

  • Sourav Mukherji, Dean – Faculty and former Dean of Alumni Relations

They also appreciated the role of the IIMB Development Foundation, led by Rohit Jaisingh, in supporting initiatives that strengthen the institute’s mission and community engagement.

A Family Initiative to Promote Learning

The scholarship has been instituted collectively by members of the Kothi family, including:

  • Chetana Kothi

  • Ravindra Kothi

  • Swapna Mitra

  • Shashank Kothi

Together, the family hopes the initiative will continue to promote the value of education and provide meaningful opportunities for young students to pursue their dreams.

Encouraging a Culture of Giving Back

The establishment of the Shri Raghuvir Kothi Memorial Scholarship reflects the broader spirit of alumni engagement at IIM Bangalore. Alumni contributions not only strengthen the institute but also create lasting social impact by supporting education and opportunity for future generations.

Scholarships like this can encourage young students to pursue academic excellence and participate in competitive learning opportunities such as scholarship tests, talent searches, and olympiad exam programs that help strengthen analytical and problem-solving skills.

By focusing on the education of a girl child within the staff community, this scholarship highlights how small but meaningful initiatives can help build a more inclusive and supportive academic environment.
